Suffering

Suffering is not a subject we like to dwell on, but it is something common to all humans.  Jesus understands suffering because he suffered a horrible death here on earth.  He also suffered from rejection, loneliness and misunderstandings.  Because of this, he has sympathy for those who suffer in this world. The Bible tells us that Jesus was compassionate to those who suffer.  (Matthew 14:14; 15:32; Mark 6:34.)  So then why must we suffer?  Why can’t we all just have blessings without any pain?

There are many theories out there about this, but the one most helpful to me is the one of choice.  I may choose to live at peace with my fellow man but there are others who want to do everything but be peaceful.  Because of poor choices, suffering comes.  So where do we go in times of trouble?

I choose to look to the one who knows about suffering and has over come it. He is able then to help us overcome it.  1 Peter 5:10 says: “And the God of all grace, who called you to his glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. (NIV)

I like  that phrase, “suffered a little while”!  In the big scheme of eternity, the sufferings we endure on this earth will be so minute compared to the rewards of an eternity with God.

Kristal and Socorro suffer for a period of time On Mystic Mountain. How do they deal with this suffering?  Will they turn to the comforter for help?  You must read the book to see!
